Biotechnology in Hessen

Staatsminister Florian Rentsch

It is almost impossible to imagine our modern world without biotechnology. The increased use of biotechnology encourages both innovation and helps protect the environment through highly active medications with relatively few side effects, more powerful yet environmentally friendlier detergent enzymes or efficient to climate neutral bioenergy sources. The chemical and pharmacology industries have long valued the utilization of opportunities presented by nature and one thing is certain: Biotechnology will remain important for the future of man and environment.

As a leading Biotechnology Center in Europe, Hessen offers unsurpassed opportunities for the biotechnology industry – a concentrated network of higher education and research institutes combined with a vast pool of highly qualified life sciences personnel, plus the proximity to Germany’s largest airport, Frankfurt am Main with its efficient domestic and international connections. Additionally, Hessen’s long tradition as a center for the chemical and pharmacology industries means that an optimal infrastructure with state-of-the-art and specialized industry parks exist.

In order to promote the biotechnology industry, the Hessian Ministry for the Economy has established “Hessen-Biotech” as a central coordination point. The goal of Hessen-Biotech is to combine industry initiatives and to encourage the exchange and cooperation between industry, science, government and the regulatory authorities.

We invite you to take full advantage of the literature published by Hessen-Biotech and the events and cooperative tradeshow booths at leading international trade fairs to help you make valuable contacts and to present your products and ideas to a wider audience.
